The Oxford Bridge of Sighs
Designed by Sir Thomas Jackson in 1914, the bridge links together the Old and the New Quadrangles of Hertford College over New College Lane. Its distinctive design makes it a city landmark.
Radcliffe Square
At the heart of Oxford University, the iconic circular Radcliffe Camera was built in 1737-40 to house the Radcliffe Science Library and is one of the world’s most photographed university buildings.
Holywell Street
One of Oxford’s prettiest and most charming streets with lovely pastel coloured buildings. Mainly comprising old-fashioned period cottages and buildings of New College.
The Bodleian Libraries
A series of impressive library halls for students to study in, housing more than over 11 million books. The Divinity School’s medieval architecture in The Bodleian Libraries makes for one of the most stunningly beautiful places in Oxford, and features in many of the Harry Potter films.
Sheldonian Theatre
One of Oxford’s prime photo spots looking out over Broad Street. The Sheldonian Theatre was built from 1664 to 1668 to a design by Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford. The stunning Baroque theatre is a renowned performing arts theatre and was originally built to hold both matriculation and graduation ceremonies.
St Mary’s Passage
This magical little spot connects Radcliffe Square with the High Street. C.S Lewis lived on this delightful quaint cobble stone alleyway which runs alongside St Mary’s Church, and it is thought to have been the inspiration for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Queen’s Lane
Oxford is full of quirky historical streets if you meander off the main roads and touristy spots. Queen’s Lane is a hidden gem in the centre of Oxford, named after Queen’s College. This winding lane is the gateway to the High Street from the Bridge of Sighs and is used regularly by students for access between colleges.
Turl Street
A fascinating street, full of character and situated in the heart of Oxford. It’s home to three important colleges (Lincoln, Exeter and Jesus) and a wonderful variety of specialist shops.
